Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt is starting a foundation to aid in both the care and research for Alzheimer’s disease.
The announcement of the Pat Summitt Foundation Fund will be made at halftime of Sunday’s game against No. 1 Baylor at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Summitt announced in August that she had been diagnosed with early onset dementia, Alzheimer’s type.
The fund will make grants to nonprofit organizations that provide education and awareness, support services and research related to Alzheimer’s.
Danielle Donehew, a former Lady Vols director of basketball operations, will be an administrator for the fund.
Wow that is great! It is so hard to find REAL information about dementia/Alzheimer’s. My mother has been suffering from the debilitating disease for nearly two years and it has totally changed her and my life. I am her care-giver since we had such a bad experience with the nursing home. There is little to no help in our area and even the doctors look crazy when I ask questions. So glad someone is starting something that will draw attention to this disease and hopefully help other people like me.
